The Installation Of The Yang Di-Pertuan Besar Of Negeri Sembilan

The installation of the Yang Pertuan Besar ia an elaborate event that is the culmination of months of work and several days of ceremonies, the grandest celebration the state has to offer.The first ceremony is the Emplacement of the Royal Regalia in the forecourt of the Istana Besar,which is later followed by tahil (religious service).Then the next ceremony is the Royal Bathing Ceremony which paves the way for the most important element of the procceding,this is the Installation Ceremony in the Balairong Seri of the Istana Besar Seri Menanti.
ROLE OF THE UNDANG YANG EMPAT
Undang Yang Empat,as electors of the Yang di-Pertuan Besar,play a crucial role in the proccedings and throughout the planning process,the Istana is in contact with each Balai Undang to ensure that custom is adhered to.The evening before the day of the Installation,each Undang arrives into the Luak Tanah Mengandong and spends the night at a special residence known as Telapak.
These location are fixed for each Undang with responsibility for the maintenance of the Telapak assigned to certain chiefs within the Luak Tanah Mengandong.
The undang meke their way to the Istana Besar,upon arriving at the palace-they rest at special pavilions,or Balai-which are constructed and placed according to custom.
  1. Balai Melintang – Undang of Sungeri Ujong
  2. Balai Serong – Undang of Jelebu
  3. Balai Bertingkat – Undang Johol
  4. Balai Panjang – Undang of Rembau

CEREMONY TO INSTALL THE YANG DI-PERTUAN BESAR
On 26th October 2009 the installation itself the Undang Yang Empat arrive at their respective Balai at the compound of the Istana Besar from Telapak.They will then walk with their Lembagas into the Istana Besar itself as a fifteen gun salute is fired.
At this juncture other senior guests arrive at the istana, the Malay Rulers do not themselves attend installation of a brother Ruler, and each sends representative- typically the Raja Muda or Tengku Mahkota – to attend instead
The Dato’Bentara Kanan then seeks the Yang di-Pertuan Besar’s permission to initiate the proceeding.Permission having been granted,the Dato’ Seri Amar Diraja announces that the ceremony has begun-then Dato’s Bentara Kanan calls upon the Undang of Sungeri Ujong to proclaim the Installation,Undangof Sungeri Ujong speaking on behalf of all the Undang Yang Empat rise and proclaim the Installation of the Yang di Pertuan Besar and in response the Dato’ Bentara Kanan announces to all present that the proclamation has been made and Tuanku Muhriz Ibni Al-Marhum Tuanku Munawir Yang diPertuan Besar the XI. of Negeri Sembilan.

Johor – Chinese Heritage

Tiong Hua Chinese Heritage Museum in Jalan Ibrahim – Johor Bahru, was set up at the cost of RM1.2mil.which has completed the daunting task of piecing together over 200 years of the Chinese history. It has 1,300 historical document and artifacts, the details of five main Chinese clan which known as Hakka, Hokkien, Teochew, Cantonese  and Hainan.

Most of the artifact and manuscripts were donated by the owner-families and to preserved to educate the new generation about the past of their clans, history of the Chinese in Johor Bahru was dated back more than two centuries. The museum was made possible through the work of academics from Malaysia, Singapore and China.

The oldest and most priceless exhibits were two signboard which made in 1874 that hung above the Chinese temple here. And you could see a construction of the old buildings in the state, including the Sultan’s palace had been done by Wong Ah Fook The Association most welcomes donations of items of historical value to preserve the Chinese heritage.
Johor Menteri Besar Dato’ Abdul Ghani Othman had launched the museum  on 3rd October 2009.He said the museum would interest tourists and those who wished to know more about the Johor Chinese community.
Open daily, except Mondays from 9.00am till 5.00pm.
